How a recommendation
gets picked

Once the tool knows which kinds of ski day your quiver doesn't cover, it has to decide what to actually suggest. Here's the logic behind that, in plain terms.

A ski covers an area, not a point

Every ski lands somewhere on the map based on how wide it is underfoot and how it rides. Heavier and metal-reinforced skis read as more damp and charging-oriented, and rocker pulls that back toward playful, independent of weight. But a ski isn't only good for its exact spot. It covers a small area around itself, since a ski that's slightly narrower or slightly livelier than the "ideal" for a zone can still genuinely handle it.

Finding what's missing

With the coverage areas for every ski in your quiver mapped out, the tool checks all nine zones and flags the ones nothing in your quiver reaches. Those are the real gaps. Not guesses, just the zones no ski you own has a claim on.

Picking the ski that closes the most ground

For each gap, the tool looks across the full catalog for skis that would cover it, then works one step further: rather than picking the single best-fit ski for each gap separately, it looks for the ski that closes the most open gaps at once. That ski gets suggested, its gaps are marked covered, and the process repeats for whatever's still open.

The result is a short, deliberate list rather than a pile of similar skis that all happen to fit the same zone. If a leftover gap has nothing in the catalog that reasonably covers it, the tool says so instead of forcing a recommendation that doesn't really fit.
